COMMUNITY OVERCOMES CORPORATION AS RALPHS BAY CANAL ESTATE PLAN SINKS UNDER ASSESSMENT

Today is set to be a pivotal day in the 6 year conflict over the Walker Corporation plan to develop a canal estate on the Ralphs Bay conservation area. All indications are that the final review by the Tasmanian Planning Commission will be damning of the Walker Corp plan and that the State Government will soon be considering some kind of ban on canal estates.

The State Emergency Service, together with Tasmania Police and the Bureau of Meteorology, will be holding community tsunami hazard awareness sessions this week at Bruny Island and South Arm. The purpose of the sessions is to provide accurate and relevant information regarding tsunami in a Tasmanian context, warnings and response actions which may need to be taken in the event of a tsunami.

This Easter three boat loads of passionate volunteers will scour the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area hand-collecting garbage from the beaches of the rugged south west coast. Marine debris causes massive levels of pollution on our beaches and the long and painful death of huge numbers of marine life.

This is a chance for the community to meet candidates for Franklin in the state election, listen to what they have to say and ask questions about their commitments in regard to the Walker Corporation's canal estate proposal, canal estates in general, a canal estate ban for Tasmania and development in the coastal zone.
