The opening of the recreational rock lobster season commences this Saturday the 3rd of November. This is traditionally a very busy time on the water around the whole state.
Inspector Ross Paine the Officer in Charge of Marine and Rescue Tasmania Police said, “Police will be on patrol on the water at variety of locations around the State this week end to coincide with the opening of the recreation rock lobster season”
”I would like to remind recreational fisherman to renew their fishing licences before taking to the water and ensure that their fishing equipment complies with the regulations.”
“Details of the requirements can be found in the Recreational Sea Fishing Guide that is issued with your licence”.
Fishers should also check the weather before launching and are encouraged to use on line weather services such as http://www.bom.gov.au or the MAST telephone weather service for the latest weather updates.
Inspector Paine also said, “Police would like to stress the importance of ensuring that all vessels have on board the required safety equipment and that police will be checking vessels on the water during their patrols for this equipment.”
“It is also advisable that fisherman let somebody on shore know their intended route and approximate time of return. “
