KAYAKERS RESCUED OFF WEST COAST

Two kayakers have been rescued from Granville Harbour after activating EPIRBS. The men are believed to be brothers aged in their thirties from Queensland and were attempting a circumnavigation of Tasmania in sea kayaks.

KAYAKER SAVED OFF CONICAL ROCKS

A Canadian kayaker who was circumnavigating Tasmania had to be rescued from rough seas off Tasmania's West Coast yesterday and was airlifted to hospital suffering hypothermia.

Simeon Michaels is paddling from Sydney to Hobart, an epic 2000km voyage across the Bass Strait, surviving storms and monster waves along the way. The voyage has also had many successes, capturing the public imagination and celebrity support.

Simeon’s will finish his epic journey on Wednesday, 21st March at Constitution Dock. He is expected to arrive at lunchtime, approximately 1:15pm.

I landed at Bridport on Friday Feb 23rd after an 8 day Bass Strait crossing. It certainly feels good to be here. Welcoming me to Bridport was a crowd of surfers, the Channel 9 cameras and, the previous day in Ringarooma bay, a pod of dolphins. More about that later.

I'm a big bag of aches and pains, but a soft bed last night, a series of solid meals and two days without paddling has me feeling better by the minute. Now for the highlights of the Bass Strait crossing......
