Comments from Reg in Sunhill

More people out at shippies than i would of expected i assumed if you wanted to take off on one of those it was all yours. Is it a fight for waves yet? Was surprised to see a boog get slung into a few though must be some sharing going on.

Comments from andrew

yeh made me wonder what the rules, or eitique, for tow in riders in the water with ppl paddeling as well.

Comments from marti

were all mates out there surfing it, if u have ever surfed the place u would know its got an awsomes vibe down there and when its pumping theres plenty of sharing going on. we have rules out there, if u wanna surf it ask the locals about it, if not, dont go stresssing your little heads about it. its an amazing place that offers amazing barrel rides that are very unique.

Comments from in hawaii

was interested as usual to see the shipstern circus...... bad enough to see standups towed thru paddlers… let alone boogie boarders!
what next? maybe the bra boys getting towed in riding the croc!

Comments from scuba

you boys have got that wave wired!you call that a circus....i call 90+guys out at wedge a circus. cheers to these fellas for keeping the crowds down on the arm ha

Comments from andrew

was just wondering about those rules… what happens when a big hill is on the horizon, is it the oldest bloke, the most skilled, the one with the biggest nads or what? is there a logical pecking order?!! or is it the person with the fastest jet ski? I guess I shouldn’t have ‘stressed my little head’ about it. But for those of us that will always just mind surf it; would be great to hear an incite into the the real vibe of the place… we see lots of pics not enough stories!! That is all. peace.

Comments from Ravernaught

Nice to see a video that shows boogers and standups tackling the same waves! And bang on Andrew but the problem you run into with “stories” is its just like fisherman telling you about the one that got a way wink

Comments from AL in shooda been there!..

Yeah, onya Marti.. Im yet to paddle into one out there, but i feel that day cometh..
And when that day arrives, I sure hope the crew out there will hoot me into my first stern cave..

Comments from in tt

I think the vibe out at shippies is so good because the crowd is much more controlled than your average line up. No one is top dog you take it in turns and the person who is up for the next wave always calls if they are going..If the surfer pulls back on a clearly makeable wave then they move to the back of the pack for the next in line.
Guys towing have the same situation but locals should have first choice if a bomb is coming, but then a tow surfer should always pull off if someone is clearly paddling into a big set!!!

Comments from in tasmania

Didn’t think this wave was anymore a circus than anywhere else, including Hawaii.........anyone twigged that surfing has increased markedly in popularity in the last ten to fifteen years and as a consequence there are more surfers everywhere. In the end we’ve all got to cope with it. It’s just the way it is and it really doesn’t matter that much anyhows as this is actually not the most burning issue facing the world at present.

Comments from Sandy in Ulushanter

some great footage. can we see the vid without the trays? If I’d wanted to watch Sponge Bobs I would’ve turned on Nickelodeon. Taking lids to Shippies is like going heli skiing with a taboggen.

Comments from andrew

thanks tt..whats the relationship like out there between the bodyboarders and the standups?

Comments from from in from

its not about what you ride anymore, who cares whats getting ridden out there. props to brendo and young charles for having a solid go out there and scoring bombs with the boys! i dont think youd be welcomed out there with that attitude. its all about having a crack and thats that! think you should stay put your at windy tamma

Comments from Paul in Hobart

Nice constructive comment there Sandy. I’m sure if you put as much time into your surfing as you did about worrying what people were riding in the water you may actually become skillful enough to get out at places like Shippies.

Have fun ripping it up at park beach mate I’m sure you will be enforcing like a true local.

P.S. Dont forget your death whistle.

Comments from in same as before

hey capt. sorry you had to waste your time replying with all the burning issues in the world right now.... but come on, tell me a lid getting towed through a pack of paddlers isnt a circus?!
havent seen that at pipe..... have seen a big regulator standing on the beach blowing his whistle when someone #### up out there.... and he`ll keep blowing it until they come in and get punched out!.... that too is a circus!

Comments from old mate

if the guys out there aren’t worried about it mate, why would you be? its just narrow-mindedness.

Comments from head runner

I agree with you old mate.
You’d think this was a game of cricket, everybody is having a bit of a bat

Comments from Old Fart in South

Gees the old Lid vs Board, i think a man needing to clinch onto a glimmer of hope that he is a better man for the craft he rides is a bit old. At 40 i have seen it all, now to unfit/fat for my mich. But i still get out with the kids on my lid.  i will bring them up to respect all in the water for their skill and talent regardless what they ride.Shame its to late for most of you. I know the Clifton crew respect and cherish the mateship of those on lids. As for the rest, who cares what you think........ your attitude the Nazis are still recruiting try that

Comments from Old Fart in South

Rich, you can have Havaii and it can have you mate, i am sure the forefathers of surfing in Hawaii did not share you views.

Comments from stu gibson

let it go lads, shippies is a bunch of mates just having the best time in the world,
there were boogs all over it yest, but some of them paddled into the craziest waves ive ever seen ridden, there are 15 yr olds taking it on,
everyone cheers after a wave no matter who was on it, thats just the way it is, and it will never change, if tassie is ever like hawaii ill b ethe first to get the hell out

Comments from swan in manning town

nicely put gibbo.

Comments from in WA

Gibbo if it gets like the north shore give me a call and i’ll come home and start regulating.  When u moving over???

Comments from andrew

thats great to hear what its actually like to be out there!

Comments from

im sorry you guys all missed the point.
and im glad that ive never been out surfing with noisey smelly jetskis towing people through the line up. as i ve pointed out there are plenty of circus acts over here but no one tows in through paddlers, even if they are mates.
great to here some inteligent comments from the people that actually surf it and im sorry to upset the people that have probably never surfed it and have nothing better to do than stick up for something they have no clue about.

Comments from in hobart

yup, nothing better than seeing towing in(stand up, boogie, wave ski, kneeboard,...) through a paddle in line up. fear not tassie will never become hawaii.

Comments from in East Coast

It’s not about stand ups or boogers, it’s about respect for your mates and where you surf. I’ve surfed all over the east coast of oz and have met 30 yo narrow minded rednecks trying to beat up on kids because they were on boogers on the train to Nulla, to cool old locals on mals calling me on a booger, into set waves at snapper. If you’re out there for the right reasons and not trying to uphold some ridiculous hollywood image, you’ll get it and most likely have fun. If you’re not, sit at home with your play station, you’ll end up just as frustrated.
