photo: Tassie surf, and Tassie surfers on the big screen! Come and support your local Surfrider chapter..
Australia's Surfrider Foundation annual conference is coming to Hobart, and it kicks off on Friday 7th November 8.30pm with a surf movie night at the Theatre Royal Hotel Hobart featuring unseen Tasmanian footage from world renowned film maker Tim Bonython..
Tasmania's Northern chapter President Peter Whish-Wilson said they've organised legendary Australian surf movie maker Tim to come down and show his latest release "Sessions".. As well as the feature movie, Tim will also be showing unseen footage from a heavy session at WA's Cowaramup Bombie, and recent footage taken down at Tassie's own Shipstern Bluff..
Here's some still grabs from some of these sessions, to tantalize your surf movie taste buds.. Get ready to see these sessions in all their big screen glory on Friday night!
The conference kicks off on Friday night at 8.30pm at Hobart's Theatre Royal Hotel, and Peter has indicated thanks to numerous sponsors, there will be heaps of giveaways, raffles and auctions of top quality surf gear going cheap.. So bring some dollars to grab yourself a bargain, and support the Surfrider Foundation Tasmanian Chapter!
All proceeds from the night will provide some much needed support for the Tasmanian Surfrider Foundation chapter..
For those interested in attending the conference sessions, you can find more information about this on the Surfrider Foundation Australia homepage www.surfrider.org.au

Sounded sick!
Shame I missed the film night, a full house of frothers is always super entertaining! - the Tassie surf crowd rocks these events!
Stoked to hear so many crew sign up to a great cause, protecting and preserving our great coast and its breaks is a wicked way to give back to our favorite source of fun and mayhem! We welcome all comers! If the ocean and the waves help you laugh and smile and feel good (no matter how well or what you ride) - sign up and you’ll feel even better, knowing you are part of a crew that cares for the coast! The more people we have signed up the more notice the lawmakers and corporate organisations will take. When those is high places know there are grass level groups, like Surfrider, on the lookout, they have to think twice about modifying the beaches, points and reefs we enjoy so much. Imagine a property development at Mays or Seven mile!? Without organisation we would have no legs to stand on if the dozers came in and stuffed with the serenity! With more members there is more power to preserve and promote the intelligent and sustainable use of the Coast and its waves! More the merrier - raise your hand and become part of a common coastal conscience! if we get 100+ new members on the books we might have to organise a party to celebrate we are currently on 43 and if the rest of those at the film night sign up we got a great excuse to throw a similar gig!
joining is easy, just click on the links above! Thanks for reading my rant!
have fun in the waves!

Gidday Jack, thanks for the feedback. We did offer the local crew the chance to show some of their own footage (Shippies etc) on the night, but it didn’t happen. Next time I’m hoping some of the local chargers will even help host a surfrider film event.. We’ll be working on it! It was a late night I admit, a few hiccups but remember we’re just a bunch of blokes (hacks?) volunteering our time.. No one gets paid for doing any of this. We’ve mostly received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the night. Stay involved for next time, cheers Whishy
